The Precursor...

Now I really have no clue when Emily is going to decide to walk. I know all babies are different and she will do it when she is ready. However, I can't help but think that she is going to hit this new milestone VERY soon!

She has been standing on her own the past few days for a few seconds at a time. Today...it was super long for her.

I REALLY hope she doesn't decide to walk while Erik is on shift - I REALLY want him to be here for it!! He doesn't get off work until Wednesday morning so I am hoping she can hold off! :) If not...we'll be making an appearance at the firehouse! :)

So here is a video of her standing today. Please forgive the horrible and annoying film job. I had to film and lift her up at the same time so I just sat the camera down to get her to stand and then filmed (as you'll see)! Also, don't mind the onesie. Yes, it says "Hi...I am new here" and it's a 12 month onesie (something odd about that...if it was a newborn onesie I can understand...but 12 month??). She is extremely low on onesies in her size and since we were just going to lounge at home today - she became a fashion victim. :)

So here is my standing cutie...

Could this really be the precursor???

Sunday Love...

There are so many things I am lovin' today! :)

I got some cards in the mail from a friend of mine yesterday for mine and Emily's birthday. I wasn't expecting them from her and it made an already good day even better. I was definitely touched!

Today I woke up even more excited now for Emily's first birthday! Erik did SO MUCH work on the yard yesterday (with the help of his parents) and it looks great!

After the longgggggggg day of cleaning the outside (his job) and cleaning the inside (my job) we took a trip out to Goore's in Sacramento to get my gift. I already knew what I was going to get because he told me and we had looked around at different ones. I needed to make sure what style I wanted as there were different ones. The one I got was completely different than the two I originally had my eye on, and the style I originally had my eye on!

So I got my birthday gift. Yes...as funny as it sounds...I wanted a diaper bag. But not ANY diaper bag! I wanted a Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bag. Why...I don't know? Because they are cute and trendy and nice and WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY better than my flimsy one that doesn't stay closed and is a pain in the you know what!

So here are pictures of the one I ended up getting:

Now...online...it's not the prettiest bag. The pictures REALLY don't do it justice. In fact, when I saw it online I didn't really like it. Like I said, I had my eyes on 2 other ones. But when we got to the store, I looked at it and liked it. It wasn't an easy decision...I think I sat there for an hour trying to make up my mind but my mind kept going back to that one...so I got it! :)

YAY for an amazing husband and YAY for a diaper bag that doesn't suck and YAY for birthdays! :)

We have been SO busy lately that I haven't been online as much! But...as Emily naps, I had a few minutes to say a quick hello to everyone before I jump in the shower to start another very busy day!

Hope you are having a wonderful and safe Labor Day Weekend!

"Talk" with you soon! :)

You Know You've Changed When...

You Know You've Changed When...

1. Planning a birthday party is no longer filled with anxiety about not having enough alcohol...but is replaced with anxiety about what the heck the kids coming to the party will do to entertain themselves!

2. You normally would spend all your time trying to look tan, get your hair and nails done, find an outfit that ROCKS to wear to the party...complete with 3 inch heels (or higher)...and that is now replaced with wondering what you will find to wear that will go with flip flops, hope your hair turns out half-way decent but will probably be in a pony tail early on, and forget the nails...but maybe a pedicure...if you have time.

3. You use to spend days and weeks (okay...honestly...I use to spend months)planning a party, filled with decorations, music, evites AND invites, food and everything else....only to realize that now you barely have time to even make a cake (in fact don't have time to make a cake - you are buying one), and the decorations for this birthday party will be VERY pink. Nothing has been bought (minus decorations) and it's getting close when before...it would all be done by now!

4. You usually worry about having enough room to host the big crowd of people that are coming that you know will want to dance. You usually worry about clearing all the furniture out to make enough room and hope no one pukes or spills alcohol anywhere on your carpet. That is now replaced with the thought of "I hope people won't trip over all these toys that I am not about to clean up!"

5. And the BIGGEST thing that made me realize I have changed...

You use to want a REALLY cool birthday gift...diamonds...expensive purse...nice shoes...something AWESOME...

and that is now replaced by wanting...

a new diaper bag! :)

It's Getting Closer!!!

I can't believe our little girl will turn one in NINE DAYS!!!!!!! It's a bittersweet feeling! I am SO excited for it...but sad that she isn't my little tiny baby anymore! She is just growing and learning and it is so fun to watch!

I ordered her special birthday cake yesterday from someone I found on the web! Since Emily has MSPI (milk and soy protein intolerance) she cannot have a traditional cake. So she is having a special cake made JUST for her! I can't wait to see it...and best of all...taste some of it! I am hoping Emily will at least smash it all over her face and hair...or even put some of it in her mouth! I know she's not too keen on putting food in her mouth herself...but maybe at her party she will? I know we'll probably have to feed some of it to her...so we'll see how she will do with the rest!

In the next few days we will get all the necessary food and things for the party. I am usually done with everything by now, but I have been laggin' for this party. Not too sure why. Maybe it's from being exhausted? I am guessing that has A LOT to do with it!

I think it's so neat that Emily and I share the same birthday! I think watching her at her first birthday (which I know she won't remember any of it) will be the best present one could ever have! :) I can't wait!

Swingin' on a Sunday

Yesterday was a nice day. Our friend Val came over with her daughter Kaylee (who have been on this blog several times). The girls played for a bit before we headed off for some very yummy lunch, visited Erik at work, and then off to the playground for swinging and fun!

The weather was hot, Emily so desperately needed a nap, but it was still a nice time! Emily LOVED the swings! Normally she'll just sit there and look at you like "wow...not too fun mom" but yesterday - she loved them! YAY! :)

This is Emily on the swing:

Followed by Ms. Kaylee havin' a blast:

YAY for swings!:

Kaylee lookin' cute sittin' on some wobbly thing: (Sorry - don't know the correct term for it!)

Ms. Emily sitting on the wobbly thing with the "I-DESPERATELY-need-a-nap-I-am-not-sure-about-this-wobbly-thing-and-you-keep-puttin'-this-hat-back-on-my-nugget-every-time-I-take-it-off" look!

And after a day of fun...what else can you do but sleep! :)

And last but not least...here is my bragging mommy moment of having to share the cutest video of Emily crackin' up on the swings:

Oh What We Do For Our Kids!

I have never been one that has ever felt comfortable in a bathing suit - even before having Emily! It is something that has caused great anxiety and has NEVER been something I have enjoyed! However, yesterday was not only a nice day weather-wise but it was also my dad's birthday which made for a perfect day to swim and BBQ.

Before we left the house, I thought of a million reasons why we shouldn't swim. I tried to explain that it is too cold (which technically it was where we live but not where my dad lives...and honestly...I knew that.) I tried to explain Emily was still a little snotty and maybe she shouldn't go in the water (although the faucet of snot had been SIGNIFICANTLY reduced). I tried to explain I didn't have a bathing suit to wear...which technically...I don't really. I ended up saying I would be the videographer/photographer so we could have memories! YAY! A GREAT excuse!

So...we get to my dads...it is warm outside and Erik decides it's time to swim. FUN! We change Emily into her suit and swim diaper and I take her out to the pool while Erik changes. I put her on the first step of the pool (with me standing in the water soaking my carpi's) and she is already have a blast! Erik comes out and gets in the pool with her while I go in to grab the camera.

EMILY WAS LOVINGGGGGGGGGGGG IT!!!!!!!!!

I thought to myself...I can't miss this. She is having so much fun! I want to be apart of this too! So 5 minutes after Erik got in, I decided it was time to put all my shame away and get in the pool. (Erik was a little concerned on who would videotape and take pictures but I assured him my step-mom was more than capable!).

So I put the swimsuit on. What a mess. The top no longer fit to one and the bottoms didn't fit on another (yes I brought two difference suits!). Nice. So I opted for the top to one and the bottoms to the other. Whatever. It's just family. Or at least that's what I told myself as I walked out, towel around me, to the pool.

I quickly got in and just about froze! I had no choice though. Either get in slowly and risk people seeing me in the bathing suit...or get in quickly enough and endure the coldness! Yeah...I'll opt for turning into an ice cube! :)

So I got in and was able to enjoy our daughter's first time in a big pool! It was amazing! She was having a BLAST! She would kick her legs and splash her arms and would cry when you tried to sit her on the step for a minute to adjust her bathing suit. She wanted to be in the water and she wanted to kick her legs, squeal, laugh and splash! It was by far one of my favorite moments of her life thus far!

Here are the pics from yesterday...

Needless to say...I am back on my Weight Watchers diet. I have gained 8 pounds back from the 22 I lost and it SHOWS. So...as of today I am back on track and plan on losing that weight before Emily's (and my) birthday on September 5th! :)

I Knew I Should Have Bought the TP Sooner!

I went to the grocery store yesterday to get a few odds and ends and then realized that I forgot the toilet paper! Okay...no big deal...we have enough to last us until Saturday morning when Erik gets home and I don't have to drag a sick baby out and into the store.

So today I have been taking care of Ms. Snotty Nose who is feeling better but not 100% quite yet. I think I have wiped her nose/face about 93582305832508 times, if not more. The fever broke and we are just left with the goop from her nose.

Anyhowsnot...I was on the phone with a client and I had Ms. Snotty Nose in her bedroom (right by where I was) playing with her toys...or so I thought. I needed her to be distracted so I could take this call but wanted her close enough to check on her and hear her in case she needed me. I can hear her playing away while I am talking to this client and answering questions. All of a sudden I realize Ms. Snotty Nose is quiet. Maybe she fell asleep (she had been rubbing her eyes) or maybe she was just so engrossed in what she's doing that she's being quiet. I didn't think it was a big deal because she is known to be quiet when she plays. As I am getting off the phone I see her bottom round the corner of part of the hall and head for the dining room area. I happened to notice something attached to her knee but didn't think twice about it. And then...I learned what had her attention...

Somehow I totally missed seeing her crawl into the bathroom which was in my line of vision. I chased her down, picked up all the TP in the bathroom, down the hall and under the dining room table.

Needless to say...I should have made my way to the store sooner because we are now completely out of toilet paper in the main bathroom. Thank goodness for the little tiny tiny bit (by little tiny bit I am talking maybe 4 squares) in the other bathroom that can hold me over until she wakes up from her nap!

But how can you be mad at a little snot nose like this:

Holy Snot Batman!

Last night before Emily went down for bed she had a runny nose. I figured it was just due to teething and it would be gone this morning.

Wrong.

She has a plethora of snot coming out of her nose and a fever! Poor little thing! She has been so clingy and whiney for a good portion of the day. She was able to get in a 2 1/2 hour nap and now is all smiles, even with her snot dripping everywhere!

(Okay...semi sorry for sharing the snot shots!)

My cousin called today to tell me he has a major cold so I am holding him responsible for this! LOL! If I get sick...he's in BIG trouble!

I am putting myself in a bubble praying I don't get it and am hoping she is feeling much better tomorrow! :)

Busy as a Bee :)

The past few days have been pretty busy for us. My sister-in-law, niece and nephew were in town and we were able to spend an evening with them at The Jungle. The Jungle is a place where kids can go and scream to their heart’s content, while becoming incredibly sweaty as they run, crawl and climb their way through giant tubes. They have a little area for infants to 3 years old filled with colored balls, a jungle gym that you would find at any outdoor park, and a few other things. In my opinion, that area is more for children that can walk unassisted and don't need their parents to watch over them as they jump around. It was definitely scary for me to watch Emily playing and to see these other toddlers just running, screaming and almost toppling over our daughter.

I, of course, was the proud mommy with camera in hand taking pictures while all the other mommies looked at me like I was crazy. I was able to snap a few pics of her playing:

The day after the Jungle experience we were suppose to head out to my grandma's to finish cleaning out her apartment of her furniture and belongings. We needed to be there around 10 or so to help. As those plans were being made, I received a phone call from my step-mom who informed me that my dad needed surgery for a staph infection in his elbow. She said it would be the next morning at 11. Plans diverted once again.

My dad had a staph infection four years ago from a bone spur he acquired while doing some yard work. It flared up again and he had to go in for some more surgery. Erik, Emily and I made our way out to Antioch to be there for his surgery and to visit afterwards. The surgery went well! My dad was even grumpy afterwards which means he must have been feeling alright! Today I found out he needs to stay an extra night and they may need to open him up again tomorrow, but we shall see!

After visiting my dad we headed over to help clean out my grandma's apartment. It was done by the time we walked into the lobby. We didn't even make it into her apartment. It was hard walking in the building, it brought tears to my eyes. I miss her so much.

After visiting with my mom and cousin we made our way out to Walnut Creek so that Erik could get an iphone. The store had just sold their last one so we decided to have some dinner at the California Pizza Kitchen before heading home.

When we got home my friends came over for drinks and a few games of Balderdash. It was a lot of fun!

Today...I did NOTHING! :) It felt nice to finally have a day of doing NOTHING! :) Although, poor little Emily has had a runny nose all day. I am hoping it is corresponding with teething and not a cold!

Well, it's about 930 and it's time to hit the hay. I want to read some before drifting off to sleep so I better get at it now as our little sweetheart seems to be waking up pretty early these past few days!

Sweet dreams! :)

RARRRRRR at the video!

Okay - one last try...hopefully this one works! :) If not...well...then I am done trying! LOL!

The Missing Video

Okay...trying to share the first video from the previous post since a lot of you have commented you couldn't see it or emailed me to let me know! I can see it on my end so I am not sure if it's me that has done something wrong or youtube or what!

At any rate...

let's try this again...

If it doesn't work I'll try something else! :)

Yay!!! WAH!

So these are the videos from the diaper derby. The first heat is...well...first. She did great! As you can see, the other contestant didn't even move! :)

The second one is second (obviously). You hear me saying "uh oh..." and that's because at home, if you say "uh oh" - even if she's whiney or upset, she'll take off crawling in hopes you chase her. Not this time...

Homies Forever...

So we did the diaper derby today! Emily did GREAT the first heat. There were only 5 babies so 2 went against each other at a time. Erik sat her down next to her competition while I was at the other end. I had my cell phone in hand in hopes to entice her (she is OBSESSED with the cell phone and literally throws a tantrum when I take it away). She crawled to me while the other baby just sat there and didn't move.

YAY EMILY WON THE FIRST HEAT!!!!!!!!! :)

But...

As soon as everyone started clapping...she got scared and started crying....and didn't stop. She was already super tired and teething and those two, mixed with loud clapping, do not mix!

The final round came along and she calmed down a tad. We figured she should crawl to Erik this time. We now had the cell phone and her favorite pop up book ready to go. I sat her down and people were cheering and she just cried. She didn't even move. Poor little Emily! :(

But she came in 2nd! :) Even though it wasn't first place...she'll always be first place to us! :)

We picked her up and gave her some tylenol and tried to get her to sleep. After a LONG while she FINALLY went to sleep and then slept for probably an hour and a half to two hours.

I will have video next post! I am not sure how the video turned out because I haven't watched it yet so hopefully it is post-able! :)

After the diaper derby hoopla, we met up with some friends and talked a bit. It is always nice to see them and they just love Emily to pieces! :)

After parting ways with our friends, we decided to walk around and take in the fair. We went into an exhibit hall where people that have made quilts and afghans and food displays and other arts and crafts had entered them to win. It was neat looking at the entries...but it was also super hard on me. Halfway through I just turned around and looked at Erik and started crying. I had to leave the hall and wait for everyone to finish outside. I just stood outside and cried while they were in there. It made me miss my grandma SO SO much. I had no idea it would make me upset like that, but it did. About a month before my grandma passed she had made a doily that one of the aids at the place she lived at entered at the fair. She won first place. She was SO proud of herself and we were all proud of her too. I sure miss her.

At any rate...after that...I think Erik wanted me to cheer up so he FINALLY obliged me in my dorkiness (I had pretty much been begging him prior to that exhibit) and agreed to get our picture taken at one of the booths. I had the same picture taken two years ago with his sister (I wasn't sober that time...this time I was) and I TOTALLY was in a dorky mood (prior to the grandma thing) and wanted to do it again...so we did. We got the picture on 2 coffee mugs (one for home and one for the firehouse) and 2 keychains for me. This is a scan of my keychain - so not the best quality. Now keep in mind that this pic was taken with a husband who had a few drinks (as you can tell by the pic), a sober wife who had zero drinks and who had just been crying (you can tell) and a baby who DESPERATELY needed a nap (as you can tell!). Needless to say right after we did this picture is when when Emily finally went down for her nap! :)

It was a nice day but I am pooped and am now heading to bed! I am going to be a rebel and not even preview this post. I am not going to spell check nor am I going to try and fix my grammar! Oh what a rebel I am! :)

Sweet dreams! 'Til next time...

Uh oh...Roar!

This is Emily's new favorite thing to do...

She does it any where and every where she can! She drops anything and everything she can get her hands on just to say "uh oh"!

Her other favorite thing is this:

This video was taken this morning at 530! I am not too sure I should be encouraging her to walk so soon! I definitely don't think I am quite ready for all that! But...I can't help but think it's adorable! :)

Rest In Peace...

Today we buried my grandmother. I am completely EXHAUSTED so I am going to keep this short. It was a VERY nice funeral and the only time I cried was when Erik read what I wrote. My grandmother will so very deeply be missed and I love her more than anything.

Here are the words spoken at the funeral today:

My Grandmother was a very special person to me. As long as I can remember, she has always been a part of my life. We have traveled to many different places and I have so many memories with her. One of my favorite early memories is when I was a little girl and I lived with her. Mam-ma had this beautiful grandfather clock in her living room that I loved listening to. Every day after school I would run home to her house just in time to hear the 3:00 chime. If the bus was running late or if I was taking a little too long, I would always find her outside waiting for me. She would holler and tell me to hurry up so we could hear it chime together.

Mam-ma was there for everything. She was there for every school performance, dance recital, and holiday. She was also there for the two most important times in my life, my wedding and the birth of my daughter.

Although Mam-ma was not physically present at my wedding she was there in my heart. I remember trying my dress on only to find my mom, my grandmother, and myself crying. She told me that I needed a nice pair of shoes to go with my dress. She was adamant about buying them, and she didn't care how expensive they were! Even after I told I was going to wear snow boots under my dress, she told me I needed nice ones for the reception. If you knew my grandmother, you could not argue with her, so I let her buy my wedding shoes. I made sure to wear them at the reception, even though that meant walking through snow to get into the restaurant.

When my daughter was born that she was there the very next day to meet her. I remember her being inpatient while we waited for the nursery to bring her. When she saw her for the first time, she looked SO proud. She held her and you could not only see the love she had for her, but you could also feel it.

That was one thing my grandmother did extremely well…she loved. She loved her family and friends more than words could ever express. We were her life. She worried about all of us and wanted to make sure we were all happy and safe all the time.

I am going to really miss my Mam-ma. I am not too sure how to live without her being a physical part of my life, but I know she will forever be in my heart. I have no doubt that she will be watching over all of us and continuing to make sure we are happy. I am truly blessed to have had such a wonderful woman as my grandmother, and she will definitely be missed.

11 Months Old and Remembering My Grandma...

Today Emily turned 11 months old! She is almost a year - I can't believe it!

With her 11 month milestone she has now learned to shake her head "yes" (which actually is more like her entire body), say "bunny", "goose", and know just what "uh-oh" means. Her new favorite thing to do is to throw something from her highchair, look down at it and say "uh oh". It's cute actually! :)

We have been very busy being with family and preparing for my grandma's funeral this Thursday. It's been tough and tonight I am faced with the task of writing what I want to say and having Erik read it for me at the funeral. As you can tell I am procrastinating. I am exhausted and it seems so hard! :( I have a few things I know I will say and just hope it all comes out right!

I miss her so much! Each time my phone rings and I see it's my mom...I automatically jump thinking it's the phone call to get to my grandma's house. I know it's not. When my phone rings and it's private I think it's my grandma calling, only to hear it's not. When I drive out to Antioch to see my family, I can't help but feel I am actually on the way to see her, when actually I am not.

It's hard and it will continue to be for a while but I will get through this. I cried in Macy's trying to find something to wear to the funeral today. Sometimes the tears just start flowing and as you can tell, I can be anywhere!

We met with the pastor going to do the eulogy tonight. He is my mom's neighbor and I grew up next door to him. His daughter was my best friend growing up. We were so close, we were joined at the hip. I am very grateful he is delivering the eulogy and it was actually touching to sit around and talk about our memories of Mam-ma.

At any rate, I need to cut this short as I am exhausted. I hope you all have a great night!

Sweet dreams everyone! :)

Saying Goodbye

I lost my grandma today. It has been a very hard day filled with tears, laughter and just good ol' family bonding. My grandma passed extremely peacefully and in her true style...still taking care of all of us in her final moments. By that I mean we were all going to send someone out to get us lunch because none of us had eaten. I was sitting next to her and as everyone was writing down what they wanted to eat, I noticed she had not taken a breath since the one before. I told everyone I think she had stopped breathing and sure enough, she had.

My grandmother would always say "go and eat...don't worry about me" and today...I think she was still saying that even in her final moments. She knew none of us would leave, we all even said that out loud, and I think she finally felt it was okay for us to leave and she let go and went home to be with the Lord.

We called hospice and they were truly wonderful with us. They were there for us at 4am this morning, sent someone over around 930 for about an hour and were with us until we left at 4pm this evening. My grandmother passed at 140 today.

Words cannot express how difficult this day has been. I lost someone whom I love more than life itself.

I am very peaceful and am doing okay. I am peaceful knowing she is at peace now.

Mam-ma...I love you so very much! I will miss you so very much but I know that you will always be with me, Emily, Erik, and all of us. I will see you again...
